BCCAA Finance Specialist


Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Specialist will support the accounting, budgeting and fiscal management requirements of BCCAA, a non-profit charitable organization.  The Finance Specialist will serve in a supportive, administrative role, with no supervisory responsibilities.

Part Time Position: 20 hours/week, paid holidays, no health package benefits

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assigned basic accounting functions, inclusive of accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, payroll, record keeping/coding, vendor payment/tracking and budget reconciliation
  • Assist in the preparation of receipts, invoices, requests for payment, vouchers and tracking into appropriate accounting system
  • Provide support in preparing, maintaining and retrieving financial reports in agency and program accounting and finance systems
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the accounting spreadsheets, journal logs to ensure compliance with organizations rules and regulations, and any other relevant legislation
  • Support role in program budget requests, monitoring and reconciliation from Program Directors, Executive Leaders and Board of Directors
  • Support role in program and agency audits
  • Interacts with administrative/operational staff and departments that support cross-over impacts to program and agency budgeting and finances
  • Adherence to handling inquiries and queries about BCCAA’s fiscal policies and procedures
  • Attends all training necessary for job and agency related responsibilities
  • Must be able to interact in a positive and professional manner to effectively work with co-workers, clients, and public to acquire and communicate agency and job-related information
  • Adhere to BCCAA and program policies, procedures and compliance regulations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance rules and regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA guidelines on the disclosure of information
  • Positive teamwork within all agency operations, activities and programs which may require actively supporting agency efforts outside finance duties

 Required Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), State of Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration – Policy 03, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars relating to Non-Profit Organizations
  • Proficiency in account functions
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with computer software packages including Excel, Windows, Quickbooks, etc.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, analysis and reconciliation
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail
  • Ability to provide accounting and technical guidance via written and verbal communications
  • Knowledge of auditing practices, procedures and importance
  • Ability to adhere to established deadlines and reporting schedules
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Executive Leadership, supervisors, program directors and vendors
  • Dependable, ethical fiscal steward with a strong compassion to serve the community

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in a finance department or role with the responsibilities of basic accounting functions, as outlined above
  • Proven proficiency in utilizing financial software, databases and tools

Preferred Qualifications, in addition to the Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working in nonprofit finance department or role
