Commodity Food Program

Staff & Volunteers Pack Bags for Distribution

U. S. Department of Agriculture surplus foods are distributed to qualifying low income households four times each year.  Eligibility will be based on total household income not in excess of 150% of federal poverty guidelines for the appropriate household size.  The next Commodity Food distribution will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 9:00am to 12:00noon.  Persons are served on a first come, first served basis. 

During our last Commodity Food distribution on December 15, 2011, we served 388 Blount County households with free food.

A typical distribution provides 40-45 pounds of food to a household and may feature items such as rice, beans, corn, juice, peanut butter, soup, spaghetti, canned fruits and vegetables, powdered milk, nuts, dried fruit, etc.

Eligibility criteria: Proof of Blount County residency; Proof of Income for households members (EBT card, Red Card, SS Letter, Bank Statement with Automatic Deposits, Etc.) or Self-declaration of income.  Eligibility will be based on total household income not in excess of 150% of federal poverty guidelines for the appropriate household size.
